the detox begins in earnest…part 1 “a glorious spring eve”
well, it was decided after the weekend imbibing sessions that a detox to rid the spleen and pancreas of the accumalated detritus would be the order of the day, or indeed week as originally planned.
and so it was then, we sought to test our resolve against that fickle mistress that is the liquour, by leaving kernow island to watch chart troubadors, bloc party. bloc party are a popular beat combo comrpising four members, and right now enjoying marvelous success at the top of the hit parade. pop pickers, this point was not lost on us and it was with butterflies in our tummies and sweat prickling our palms that we set off into the glorious cornish evening.
my fellow companions for the journey were dirk, matt, and musgrove. you may recall these chaps from such previous adventure as “oh! what a horrible plum” and the slightly more challenging read “a thesis on a diatribe”.
we had hardly left newquay when we found ourselves inside quintrell stores stocking up on pasties and vodka and shark and lemonade. the vodka, dirk assured us, would help us get the night off to a good start. as i was ‘des’ for the evening (more on this later) i watched on as the lads gamely sucked away at the teated bottle that dirk had procurred earlier, and into which he had decanted the potent mix. to say it was a vile green and more than faintly reminiscent of dog’s piss could be construed as a crashing understatement.
we clocked up the miles and the black ribbon of motorway stretched out ahead of us. the hilux was dependable, sure footed and more than one of our company was heard to remark, as we cruised in out cushioned charriot, that it was a joyous evening it was to be alive. special mention must also be made to the fact that the hilux is indeed the strongest and most enduring vehicle to ever roll off the production line. this bravado and confidence was by now becoming reflected in the moods of the lads, as the strident coctail began to take hold.
